Degree or not Degree? That is the question...

Hello! My name is Darryl Dote, and I am currently a graphic design major here in Fresno at Willow International. Due to some minor setbacks, we are receiving assistance from the county to help me complete my degree, but have hit a slight roadblock. When I first signed up for their help, I told them that I wanted to go for my certificate in Graphic Design – which now is something that I can’t complete without causing a huge burden on my family. The option HAS appeared, however, for me to complete my AA degree through transfer units within the same amount of time – but the county needs proof from viable employers and people in the workforce that I would be more employable with an associate’s degree over a certificate of completion. Never mind the fact that I am hoping to use my AA credits towards a BA Degree Completion program in the near future.

What are your thoughts in this area? Would an AA degree make me more employable than a Certificate of Completion requiring only four classes (Photoshop, Illustrator, Beginning Drawing and Corel Painter?) If you can help me, a pdf letter or at least e-mail with contact information would be greatly appreciated as I am needing for the State to make up their mind on this funding as soon as possible -- meaning, before the semester begins. :-)
